Last Saturday afternoon Exeter Football took on Nashua North in the Division 1 State Semifinals at William Ball Stadium. Exeter came in as the favorite with a regular season record of 8-1, taking the 1st seed in the East/West bracket. Nashua North had a very successful season as well, finishing 7-2 with losses only to Dover and Exeter, coming into the playoffs as the 2nd seed in the East/West bracket. It was a tremendous game from both sides that eventually finished in a 23-20 win by the Exeter Blue Hawks in overtime, thanks to a field goal by Jake Gould for the win.
On the other side of the playoff bracket, Bedford beat Merrimack in another close game: 27-20. Bedford is the final undefeated team in Division 1 and will be playing Exeter for the first time since 2014, where they played twice: once in the regular season and once in the semifinals where Bedford won both games. The Bedford Bulldogs eventually lost in a blowout against Pinkerton in the 2014 State Finals, but look to continue their recent success against the Blue Hawks.
This Division 1 State Final between two of the premier athletic organizations in the state will take place this upcoming Saturday, November 19th, at the University of New Hampshire Stadium at 6pm. The two teams will follow the Division III Championship at 11am between Stevens and Inter Lakes/Moultonborough and the Division II Championship at 2:30pm between Plymouth and Bow.
Our Exeter Blue Hawks look to grow their football dynasty at 6PM on Saturday, November 18 at UNH, and we hope to see a full student section at the game to support our fellow Hawks.
