Choir Spring Awards Concert

On Thursday, May 19th, the auditorium played host to the final full choir concert of the year. Three groups performed: the chamber, elect, and honors choirs. Awards were also presented during this concert.

The concert began with the song “Aquarius,” which was sung by all three choruses. This was followed by the honors choir’s performance of “Stand By Me,” conducted by senior Maddie Roth. After, the three groups performed “Fields Of Gold.” The next piece was Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain,” sung by an ensemble of girls from the select choir. The group arranged this piece, and freshman Lydia Barnes accompanied them on piano. Joey Winslow and Brendan Murphy then performed a saxophone duet of “All of Me” by Seymour Simons and Gerald Marks, which was far jazzier than the John Legend song of the same title.

Concluding the first half of the concert was a medley of songs from the musical “Les Miserables.” This featured the songs “At the End of the Day,” “I Dreamed a Dream,” “Castle on a Cloud,” “Do You Hear the People Sing?,” “On My Own,” “Bring Him Home,” and the show’s finale.

Then began the awards portion of the evening. The freshmen in the chamber choir were each given a pin. Seniors were given tassels to wear during graduation. Service awards were presented to juniors and seniors who assisted in setting up before concerts. Amanda Berke, Rachel Zampini, and Joey Winslow were recognized for making both the jazz and classical All-State festivals.

After awards were presented, a senior took the microphone to thank Ms. Papp. After her speech, the seniors gave Ms. Papp a card that said “We love Papp.”

The evening was concluded with the senior song “Back Home.” This song will also be performed at graduation.
